About Us

Susitna Stained Glass is a small stained glass business located in Palmer, Alaska. I grew up in this small town with parents who made sure I spent nearly my entire childhood outdoors and traveling around this state as much as we could. I grew up rafting rivers, camping, fishing, hiking mountains, climbing boulders, exploring glaciers, riding along on long road trips from one side of the state to the other, and everywhere inbetween. My fondest memories are of camping in Denali National Park and camping in small campgrounds with our family friends. I have been blessed to have grown up surrounded with Alaska's nature and beauty. While it always has inspired me and taken my breath away, I never found the correct medium to express Alaska in art, the way that I saw it.

Two years ago I enrolled in a beginner's stained glass course through my local community college. I immediately felt a connection and knew that I could express myself through this medium. I had a very supportive mentor who encouraged me to continue with glass after the course ended. I made a few pieces for gifts that Christmas, but did not take the trade seriously before I returned to my studies at University of Alaska Anchorage and eventually packed away my supplies. The current pandemic showed a silver lining when I was laid off of my jobs and found time to focus on stained glass. I made a few earrings that friends adored and this eventually lead to purchasing a business license and launching my small business.

The patterns I make for my stained glass panels and suncatchers are based off of the beauty I see and feel in Alaska. My business, Susitna Stained Glass, is named partially after the borough I live in - the Matanuska Susitna Borough. Mt. Susitna (Sleeping Lady), Susitna Glacier, and the Susitna River are also nearby and heavily influence my work. For those who do not live in Alaska, my goal is to help you feel the beauty and power in this great state through the art I make. And for those both here or away from Alaska, it is my hope that it can remind you of home.

I am continuing my studies at the University of Alaska Anchorage as a Natural Sciences major and have one more year left in my degree. Please bear with me as I balance a STEM heavy course load and my stained glass art. I find stained glass as an art outlet for me, especially when I can focus on ocean and Alaskan themes.
